Manitowoc has opened a new hangar dedicated to the assembly of its Grove GTK1100 mobile telescopic crane.

The 12,000 square metre facility lies about 1 km from Grove's Wilhelmshaven factory in Germany, and offers an additional 12,000 square metre outside testing area. The GTK1100 uses a multi-axle wheeled carrier with a vertical telescopic mast, topped with a luffing telescopic boom upper works from a GMK7450 all terrain mobile crane. It stands on a four outrigger cross base. Maximum reach from the ground is 120 m.

While some parts of the GTK are constructed in the main Wilhelmshaven GMK facility, about 15 employees work full-time at the new hangar. According to the company, there have been about 10 orders for the unique crane, with five of them already delivered.
