Intermat, the largest construction exhibition in the world this year, has opened its doors at the Paris-Nord Villepinte Exhibition Centre. The show runs from Monday 20 April to Saturday 25 April.

Despite a subdued French and European economy the exhibition organisers are optimistic for the event, expecting 200,000 visitors, with around 35% from outside of France. There are 1,410 companies exhibiting, including 35 of the top 50 global manufacturers.

The first day of the show saw a flurry of new product launches, including the first European grader from Case, a Tier IV loader from Liugong and new mini excavators from Kobelco. Pioneer Pump, meanwhile, introduced its first ever Vortex-design pumps.

Intermat said that the French economic situation was gloomy, but highlighted a number of large construction projects in the country that would benefit contractors and equipment producers. These include urban redevelopment projects, a huge rapid transit project Grand Paris Express, a construction stimulus plan, and the ‘Grand Paris’ programme.

The exhibition includes a number of conferences and associated events. For example, World of Concrete Europe – a joint venture between Intermat and Hanley Wood - is being held for the first time, with a dedicated exhibition space in Hall 7.

In addition, separate conferences for the demolition and rental sectors are among those taking place. French demolition association SNED holds its event on Monday, while the European Rental association has organised a conference for Thursday.

Intermat is organised by Comexposium and has the support of major associations CISMA (Association of Equipment Manufacturers for Construction, Infrastructure, Steel and Handling Equipment Industries) and SEIMAT (Association of International Civil Engineering, Mining, Construction and Hoisting Equipment industries.)
