Vic's Crane & Heavy Haul has recently purchased a set of new Hydrospex strand jacks through Kitchen's Crane & Equipment, based in Virginia, USA.

"The Hydrospex HSL-2000s were purchased to expand our heavy lift capabilities and to better serve our long list of repeat customers," said Paul Newman, project manager at Vic's.

Vic's inaugurated the new strand jacks at a power plant in Spiritwood, North Dakota. The strand jacks were used to hoist a 218,000 pound (99 tonne) steam drum to its final elevation. The strand jacks and lift frame were positioned onto a slide track and used on the steam drum support beams at an elevation of 152 feet (46 m). An additional slide track was placed perpendicular to allow for horizontal positioning during hoisting.

The HSL 2000, with an individual jack capacity of 220 US tons (200 tonnes), can perform heavy lifts at higher elevations than conventional gantry systems and will be more suitable to confined areas than heavy lift cranes, said the company.

"The Hydrospex computer control system and software is very user friendly and offers load detection, stroke readouts, overload alarms and jack synchronization to safely perform any engineered lift," said Eddy Kitchen of Kitchen's Crane.
