Two Potain cranes have been central to expansion work at Sydney's Westmead Hospital, one of the largest hospitals in Australia. Contractor Thiess originally rented a MC 85 Potain city class tower crane for the first two phases of work from New South Wales-based rental company Active Crane Hire. Thiess leased a larger MC 310 K12 Potain tower from Active to carry out construction work on phases three and four.

Mark Foster, Thiess site manager, said working with Potain and Active Crane Hire made the job run smoothly.

The MC 310 K12 has a maximum under hook height of 187 feet and a maximum lifting capacity of 13 tons. Its 229 foot jib allowed it to service all of the three building projects from one position. The crane can lift 3.5 tons at jib-end.
