Link–Belt's 110 ton model 218 Hylab HSL is the first crawler crane to emerge from the Hitachi Sumitomo–Link–Belt alliance.
Highlights include a new rated capacity limiter (RCL), a new winch package with wet brakes, a new seven–piece counterweight design with a new counterweight removal system and quicker overall assembly and disassembly, thanks to Link–Belt's patented “Quick Draw” system.
A tubular lattice boom is available for the 218 HSL from 40 to 230 feet. Another option is a jib, from 30 to 75 feet long, that can be offset to 5, 15 or 25 degrees. For additional tip height, a 190 foot main boom can be combined with a 75 foot jib for a maximum tip height of 265 feet.
When rigged in the luffing attachment mode, the 218 HSL's main boom becomes the luffing boom to make up 140 feet plus 140 feet of attachment. The luffing attachment's working range starts at the 90 degree luffing boom angle and luffs out to 65 degrees.
The 218 HSL has a redesigned, larger operator's cab. Controls are mounted in the arms of the adjustable seat and the ergonomic design offers greater visibility, more room, easy to read gauges, adjustable boom, swing and load hoist controls.
The 218 HSL has a new RCL that incorporates the latest Hitachi Sumitomo and Link–Belt design. A new color graphic display has load–on–hook, maximum allowable load on hook, boom length and angle, tip height, audible and visual warnings. In addition, this new limiter features a function kick–out for overload and anti–two block occurrences. Load sensing in the boom hoist dead end is used to feed data to the load limiter computer.
Link–Belt's new hydraulic counterweight removal system allows the hydraulic cylinders and integral device to be removed in one piece with the counterweights to reduce transport weight.
The five piece, 62,840 pound counterweight and two 11,100 pound sideframe counterweights are designed for easy handling. The 218 HSL transports with complete attachment in four loads, without an assist crane. The complete crane, less counterweight, with base section, transports with both drums weighs 99,960 pounds.
