USA-based Bigge Crane and Rigging purchased four new 330 US ton (300 metric ton) capacity Liebherr LR 1300 SX crawler cranes during the Bauma exhibition in Germany in April.

The purchase makes Bigge’s fleet of LR 1300 SX crawler cranes the largest in the world, with 24 units. The model is used by the firm as part of its large wind power rental fleet. It is ideal for wind tower work because its luffing jib is 20 to 40% bigger than any other in its class, Bigge said.

“Bigge has been a long-time partner of Liebherr, but we wouldn’t have the largest LR 1300 SX fleet in the world if the machines did not consistently exceed our customer’s as well as our own expectations,” said Joe Nelms, Bigge Crane and Rigging vice president of marketing.

Maximum main boom is 393 feet (120 meters) and there is a derrick system incorporating a suspended counterweight for stability when lifting extreme loads.
