Express Global Logistics (EXG) completed a marathon project involving 168 wind turbine blades, each one more than 80 metres long, in India.

EXG was tasked with transporting the 82.3 metre blades from origin to the port, then the handling, cleaning, customs clearance and further delivery.

Careful asset management was crucial to the success of the project. An example was on-time supply of specialized trailers designed to carry turbine blades. Thirty trailers were dedicated to intra-port movements. This allowed the blades to be fed to a crane for loading onto the vessel. EXG also arranged supply of lifting equipment for unloading and reloading at Kandla port.

Engineering carried out by EXG meant correct placement of blades on vehicles and also helped in overcoming challenges along the 570 kilometre transport route.

Success was attributed to “seamless alignment and teamwork of EXG’s Chennai, project, and Kandla teams.” Project management and reporting was done by the Chennai team, the project team handled execution, and the Kandla team took responsibility for customs clearance, port documentation, and port handling.
