Florida passes uniform crane law

The State of Florida, in the USA, has passed a new bill that calls for statewide regulations concerning hoisting equipment and worksites. The Florida Crane Safety Alliance (OSHA), The Florida East Coast Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC), and the Florida Crane Owners Council (FCOC) have endorsed the amended state statute.

Florida governor Rick Scott signed into law the bill that clarifies statewide uniformity and eliminates the need for county or municipality adopted regulations on hoisting equipment.

Local regulation concerning worksite hurricane preparedness or public safety will also continue to be pre-empted to the state.

The new bill closely follows new rules put forward by the OSHA in November 2010, which called for new standards for the crane and construction industry, not just in Florida, but also across the whole country.
