Manitowoc has launched the Grove TTS9000-2, a 100 tonne capacity truck crane with steering on all axles.

It is an all-wheel steer (AWS) version of the recently updated TMS9000-2 truck crane. Both are rated at 115 US tons (100 tonnes) and offer a hook height of 79.3 metres. Each has a 44 tonne gross vehicle weight. The six section Megaform boom with Twin-Lock pinning extends from 36 to 169 feet (11.2 to 51.6 metres) on both models.

The new AWS system has automated options to enhance drivability, especially under challenging conditions, for example, on congested urban jobsites or steep and narrow backcountry roads, to help operators easily navigate tight turns, Manitowoc said.

“We listened to the input of customers who were passionate about the need for rear steering capability and worked with Manitowoc’s Lift Solutions engineers and other teams to leverage our successful TMS9000-2 platform and make this new crane a reality,” said JJ Grace, Grove product manager for truck-mounted cranes.”

There are three rear-steer modes: co-ordinated, crab, and manual, in addition to the standard highway mode. They are selected via a button on the right-hand console.

“One of the model’s biggest advantages is that the operator doesn’t have to manually adjust the rear wheels, as this feature has traditionally been engaged on similar machines,” Grace continued.

Removeable counterweight helps improve drivability and minimize axle loading. “We see this model as a great option for customers who need a truck crane that can wear a lot of different hats,” Grace added. “Our customers can reach more jobsites by taking the crane along with a small support truck for the extra counterweight. It’s a setup that has worked well for many of our TMS9000-2 customers.”

TTS9000-2 is available to order throughout the Americas.
