Beginnings: Founded by John Hastings in 1873 as a drayage company that worked with the New York Central Railroad to deliver virtually any commodity that could be hauled by horse-drawn wagons.

Milestones: Family owned and operated until the 1960s. Specialized in hauling, unloading and installing machinery for many of the nation's leading paper companies, including Georgia Pacific and James River. Purchased by Gerald Van Dam of Gelock Heavy Movers in Grand Rapid, Michigan in 1969. His son, Richard A. Van Dam, serves as Hastings Truck Company's Vice President and General Manager. Gelock also is a long-time SC&RA member.

The company today: Provides rigging, erecting, heavy hauling, millwright service and crane service offers gantry systems up to 800 tons, mobile hydraulics up to 365 tons, and rough terrain hydraulics up to 75 tons.
