The crane will be delivered in its main components and fully-assembled on-site at the start of 2024.

Gemadept decided to replace its older Konecranes Gottwald model 4 mobile harbor crane with the first generation 6 crane in Vietnam.

The crane will handle container and project cargo for the developing Haiphong area.

Crane specification

The crane has a working radius of up to 49 metres and a maximum capacity of 125 tonnes. In comparison to the model 4 crane, it has a higher tower cab for a wider view of vessel operations, stronger lifting capacity curves to improve handling rates, and a higher lifting capacity for heavy cargo handling.

Its A7 classification ensures a long service life. The crane is powered by a modern diesel engine with optimised fuel consumption to minimise emissions. Training for on-site technicians is included in the order.

Equipment upgrade

Located at the most important commercial transport hub in the region, NDV is one of Gemadept’s major port projects, so modernisation and high capacity are both important investments in the future, the company said.

“Our operation just keeps on growing and we need the latest equipment to support it. We will redeploy our previous Konecranes mobile harbor crane at one of our other terminals and increase capacity at NDV with a new Konecranes Gottwald Generation 6 Mobile Harbor Crane. It will provide the right performance, flexibility and ergonomic design to boost our productivity for many years to come,” said Do Cong Khanh, deputy CEO of Gemadept.

“This order illustrates the strength of our long-term partnership with Gemadept and local representative MIPEC, who always give excellent technical support. In addition, this will be the first Konecranes Gottwald Generation 6 Mobile Harbor Crane in Vietnam,” added Holger Wagner, regional sales manager of port solutions at Konecranes.
