Making waves

UK: Anderson Crane Hire in the UK used a 56 ton (50 metric ton) capacity Sany crawler crane to help right a beached ferry.

The Riverdance roll-on, roll-off ferry was struck by a freak wave on its journey from Northern Ireland to Heysham Port, England, leaving the 6,720 ton (6,000 metric ton) vessel beached off the coast of nearby town Blackpool.

Anderson Crane Hire used its Sany SCC500D, with a 171 foot maximum boom, to stabilize the ferry by rearranging cars, trucks and containers which had lurched to the starboard side.

The rental company became the first UK owner of a Chinese manufactured Sany crawler crane in October 2007, when it purchased the SCC500D from Watson and Hillhouse, the Chinese manufacturer's UK agent.
