Manitex posts new sales for boom trucks, forklifts

Manitex International has secured orders worth US$8 million for its boom trucks and military forklifts. During the second and third quarters of 2010, the company said it will ship around $5 million-worth of boom trucks and $3 million-worth of specialized military forklifts.

Scott Rolston, senior vice president, sales and marketing, said, "The new crane orders are split among three of the top growth areas that we've been pursuing, namely international distribution, independent rental fleets, and the energy support sector."

Rolston said Darwish Bin Ahmed & Sons, a new Manitex dealer in the UAE, placed orders for several model boom trucks, including a 40 ton model.

"In the independent rental fleet sector we received orders from one of our larger dealers to meet improving end user demand in the regions he serves," Rolston continued. He said that orders received from the oil and gas industry suggests improvement in activity for companies focusing on energy extraction and distribution. Included in the energy related orders were several trailer-mounted cranes that will be supplied to a major oilfield service company.

The $3 million order for specialized forklifts are repeat orders from the US military, the company said. The forklifts, which are a part of the Manitex Liftking organization, are due for shipment at the end of the third quarter of 2010.

"The level of military activity globally continues to be strong and our specialized forklifts are targeted to satisfy their particular operating requirements," said Mark Aldrovandi, responsible for Manitex Liftking's international and military forklift sector.
