Manitowoc Cranes was one of nine Wisconsin, USA-based organizations to receive a special award recognizing its support of guard and military personnel while on active duty.

The Above and Beyond award was presented by the Employer Support of Guard and Reserve division of the Department of Defense in a special ceremony held April 17 in Green Lake, WI.

Brian Hahn, the Manitowoc employee who nominated the company for this award, said that Manitowoc was extremely supportive of him and his family during his deployment in Balad, Iraq in 2006 and 2007.

"In addition to sending care packages and sponsoring satellite internet for me and a number of others," he said, "Manitowoc had frequent contact with me and my family. Even the CEO, Glen Tellock, would e-mail me on a regular basis."

Gordon Green is another Manitowoc employee who served in Iraq in 2004 and 2005. Along with Hahn, he also is an active member of the Army Reserves 377th Support Maintenance Unit. Green said that Manitowoc continues to support his Reserves activities.

They are always willing to make sure I have time off to prepare for my military responsibilities, such as meetings or training weekends" he said. "And they even let our unit use the loading dock in the shipping area if we need to unload military vehicles from the semi-trailer beds."

Manitowoc's support of military personnel truly comes from the top of the organization. Glen Tellock, chairman and CEO of The Manitowoc Company, Inc., says that supporting military personnel is much more than a legal requirement. "We're proud to support those who choose to serve our country," he said. "I am humbled by their dedication, commitment, courage and loyalty, and it is our privilege to do our part and support that effort as best we can."
