Master Lock secures Field ID buy-out

By Sarah Ann McCay22 February 2013

Lock manufacturer Master Lock has acquired N4 Systems Inc, parent company of Field ID, a provider of safety management software that is widely used in crane, hoist and lifting applications.

Field ID will become a new, complementary offering in Master Lock’s Life Safety business. Through the acquisition, it will gain access to Master Lock's global sales network, while the Field ID solution will complement existing solutions offered by Master Lock, such as lockout/tagout locks and accessories for industrial safety.

Field ID provides safety compliance and inspection management software for the web and mobile devices operating on Google Android, Apple iOS and Windows Mobile. The company's cloud-based inspection software combines web-based and mobile technologies with RFID and barcodes to improve the efficiency, reliability and reporting of workplace safety management. The Field ID software can also be used to track assets such as cranes, slings and harnesses.

Field ID will continue to operate independently from its Toronto, Canada headquarters.
