Model 16000 crawlers operating in Ontario

24 April 2008

Manitowoc's Model 16000 crawler crane has become a workhorse in wind power applications. Two of the 440 ton capacity Model 16000s recently erected 66 three-section 262 foot wind turbines along 18 miles of Lake Erie's northern shoreline in Ontario, Canada. The project, the Erie Shores Wind Farm, was managed by HB White Canada Corp, the Canadian subsidiary of Indiana, US-based White Construction USA, which owns the cranes. The Erie Shores Wind Farm will provide 99 megawatts of electricity - enough to power 32,000 homes in the region. It is one of ten new renewable energy initiatives set up in the Canadian province of Ontario. The project is owned by Clean Power Income Fund and developed by AIM PowerGen Corporation.
