NCCCO Foundation updates “most similar certifications”

By Hannah Sundermeyer07 March 2023

The NCCCO Foundation made important updates made to its online directory for “most similar certifications” designed to help employers navigate OSHA’s rules on crane operator qualifications.

The directory currently lists nearly 30 types of load handing equipment and the most similar certification needed to operate that equipment according to determinations made by the CTAG.

The NCCCO Foundation’s Crane Type Advisory Group (CTAG) received notice from the National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (CCO) that it launched national certifications for the Fixed Telehandler Operator and Rotating Telehandler Operator as of January 31, 2023. Based on the availability of the new certifications for specific equipment currently listed on the Most Similar Certifications Directory a corresponding update was made to the directory indicating these certifications must now be obtained to operate the equipment per OSHA regulation [29 CFR 1926.1427(c)(2)]. Operators and employers can find links to more information about the newly available certifications listed under the associated equipment at www.ncccofoundation.org/most-similar.

“The NCCCO Foundation is pleased to make this update to the Most Similar Certifications Directory as we work to continue to provide up-to-date and accurate information to assist employers in the load handling industry in selecting the most appropriate operator certification for a particular crane when no specific accredited certification is available,” said T.J. Cantwell, executive director, NCCCO Foundation.
