The Port of Longview, Washington has purchased a new shoreside mobile harbor crane. The 104 ton capacity Liebherr LHM500S cost $4.3 million.

“This acquisition by the Port strengthens what is already a proven capacity for handling project cargoes,” said Ken O' Hollaren. “We are committed to supporting our current and future customers shipping heavy lift cargoes, and particularly the wind energy sector.”

In 2007, the Port of Longview handled nearly 200 full wind turbine sets plus tower components for wind energy projects.

Since 2003, wind energy has grown to comprise 25% of the Port of Longview’s marine cargo services.

The port expects to take delivery of the crane in July 2008.
