The Sarens Group, in conjunction with subsidiary Rigging International, is producing a 3,200 metric tonne capacity ring-based crane that will be available in early 2011.
The company said the SGC 120 is an "innovative and versatile heavy lift crane system" designed to accommodate the heavy lifting requirements for refinery, petrochemical, offshore platform and third-generation components for both advanced pressurized water reactor (APWR) and boiling water reactor (ABWR) nuclear power plant designs.
The Sarens Group is based in Wolvertem, Belgium and Rigging International is based in California, USA. Engineering departments of both companies are working on the design of the crane.
It is designed to meet all US and European lift crane standards. The ring‐mounted configuration allows for minimal ground surface preparation where native soils can support 2 US tons/ft² (20 metric tonnes/m²).
The company said the crane is all containerized and is designed for low-cost transportation. Using a standard configuration, the crane will need around 135 containers for transport.
The SGC 120's six modular hydraulic winches system offers redundant backup, easy installation and replacement, Sarens said. The all-winch wire rope lifting system is designed to offer fast and smooth load raising and lowering movement.
The Sarens Group is also developing a rail system to allow rapid jobsite relocation.
Sarens has been active in crane rental and heavy lifting and special projects since 1955, operating in 33 countries with more than 2,700 employees.
