The SC&RA presents "Bills of Lading – Key Considerations & Common Errors" for its August 17 webinar topic.

"A standard bill of lading is a contract between a carrier and shipper for the transportation of goods. Although fairly straight forward, there are variations to bills of lading and some key considerations that must be taken into account to ensure accuracy, avoid cargo claim exposure and protect the parties from lengthy and costly disputes," the SC&RA said.

The webinar aims to provide valuable information and insight into these key considerations and also shed light on some of the common errors and strategies to avoid claims exposure, fines, longer transit times and other costly mistakes.

Craig J. Helmreich of Scopelitis, Garvin, Light, Hanson & Feary will present the webinar.

Helmreich's practice includes civil litigation, corporate collections, freight charge issues, cargo claims, and motor carrier transactions.

Helmreich has a diverse practice assisting motor carriers and other transportation service providers in areas ranging from business litigation and bankruptcy to corporate collections, freight charge issues, and cargo claims (prosecution and defense). He also provides counsel on various transportation contract issues and motor carrier transactions.

Helmreich graduated from Butler University (B.A. with departmental honors political science and philosophy) and the Indiana University School of Law - Indianapolis (J.D. cum laude). At these institutions, he earned a departmental scholarship for excellence in philosophy and a law alumni scholarship, respectively.

Admitted to the Indiana bar in 2000, Helmreich is licensed to practice before all Indiana state and federal courts. He is a member of the Indianapolis and Indiana State Bar Association.
