A manufacturer of crushed stone and asphalt, Stone Industries previously bought a 60 ton (54 tonne) trailer from Rogers and went back to the company for its newest model, said John Ciampo at Stone Industries.
When they began shopping for a new lowboy trailer, versatility was the main criteria, the company said. "Our business is multifunctional," explained John Ciampo, "We manufacture crushed stone, sand and asphalt. We accept concrete and asphalt for recycling and operate a supply centre for decorative stone, landscaping and masonry. Stone Industries also has three milling machines which are available for road reclamation projects."
"They were invaluable in helping us design our new custom trailer," Ciampo continued. Rogers produced a 55 ton capacity, detachable gooseneck trailer with front folding ramps, removable wheel pockets and centre boards, air ride suspension, and auxiliary battery power so that the lights and safety lights function when disconnected from the tractor."
The trailer is used to haul pieces of equipment, including Caterpillar rubber-tyre loaders and excavators, a Grove rough terrain crane, a Komatsu PC400 with hammer, a CMI milling machine, an Ingersoll-Rand rock drill, and a D400 dirt truck.
"In the past, we had to hire out some of this hauling work," said Ciampo. "The Rogers trailer enables us to haul our excavator without breaking it down, while still staying within the legal height limits, saving us both time and money.
Ciampo said the tyres on the trailer are bigger, helping to prevent damage to the wheels if they happen to hit a curb on a tight "city street". He said the new trailer also saves fuel because it is lighter and 20 inches shorter than the company's previous trailer.
