Terex lays off 150

Terex Cranes has laid off about 150 employees at its plant in Waverly, US, according to news reports. In a statement reportedly issued to the Iowa press, Terex said the layoffs were the result of the effects of the economic slowdown and a softening demand for mobile cranes.

The Waverly plant, which produces boom trucks, rough terrain cranes and truck cranes, previously employed about 350 people. Most employees were notified of the job cuts late last week. By Friday 23 January 2009, officials from Iowa Workforce Development had started to post information regarding job workshops and classes at the Waverly Public Library for former Terex employees, according to news reports.
