UK Ministry of Defence orders Terex Demag ATs

Terex Demag will supply 65 all terrain cranes to the Ministry of Defence (MoD) in the UK. The deal includes 59 units of the model AC 35 and six AC 55-1s and will be handled by Amey Lex Consortium (ALC), a joint venture between support services provider Amey and defence fleet management and logistics specialist Lex Defence.

ALC's remit is to provide a modern worldwide fleet of construction equipment for the British army, to the value of $1.2 billion (UK£600 million) over 15 years. According to Terex Demag the consortium was looking for a product “with little or no specialization. With this in mind Terex Demag responded by offering its AC 35 and AC 55-1 models with optional, nonstandard, equipment kept to a minimum.”

The AC 35 has a 35 metric ton lifting capacity, with a maximum boom length of 30.4 meters and tip height of 46 meters. The AC55-1 has a 60 metric ton lifting capacity, 40 meter maximum boom length and a 55 meter maximum tip height.

Both models will be manufactured on a dedicated production line by Terex Cranes France to ensure regular production will not be held up. Deliveries will follow throughout 2008 and 2009.
