Wasel ups capacity with 750 tonne Liebherr

A new 750 tonne capacity Liebherr LR 1750/2 lattice boom crawler is the largest crane in the fleet of German crane and transport specialist Wasel.

Wind power applications are a target for this crane for about three quarters of its time, Wasel said. To this end the crane was ordered with the new SX boom system and the VarioTray superlift carrier to increase capability. Commenting on his choice, Matthias Wasel, Wasel managing director, said, “We decided on the Liebherr 750 tonne crane since no other manufacturer had a comparable product in this size class.”

Wasel went on to say that the SX boom system puts the crane’s capability in the next capacity class but with less extra transport cost.

The SX boom is a system where two or three 3.5 or 6 metre wide by 14 m long lattice sections are inserted in the lower section of the boom, adding rigidity. Also new is the Vario Tray which is a removable ballast frame for the derrick. It is unbolted from the suspended ballast frame for use separately with up to 125 tonnes of counterweight. To change configuration it means it can be bolted or unbolted instead of loading and unloading many slabs of counterweight.
