Beginnings: Rudie Wilhelm, Sr. acquired Noland Transfer in 1910, renaming it Wilhelm Transfer Company in 1914.

Milestones: After operating with four horses, purchased trucks in 1917, a first in the Portland area. Accepted delivery of the “largest truck in the West,” boasting 58 tires, 300-ton load capacity, winch equipped trailer and specially designed hydraulics to raise or lower loads. Won Hauling Job of the Year Awards in 1972 and 1985.

The company today: offers heavy hauling, using single drops, double drops, flat beds, steering trailers and pole dollies; freight management and logistics solutions; and moving and rigging of transformers and machinery. Part of the Landstar network of hundreds of independent agencies and thousands of business capacity owners working together to meet virtually any transportation needs.

Noteworthy clients: Pacific Power and Light, Portland General Electric, Bonneville Power Administration, Vestas America Wind Turbine Energy, Montana Dakota Utilities.
